SOUTHERN LIVING in its October 2008 issue features Jake Reiss and The Alabama Booksmith. Jake,  the best booksmith in the South, or for that matter anywhere, has occassionally invited John to play songs appropriate to the occasion for book signings at The Alabama Booksmith. There is a picture of John and Jake in the article. One of the most memorable occassions was John playing songs written by songwritter and author Bobby Braddock at Bobby's booksigning of his  book "DOWN IN AUBURNDALE, A songwriter's youth in old Florida". Who, you may ask, is Bobby Braddock? He has only written, along with Curly Putnam, maybe the greatest country song ever: "He Stopped Loving Her Today." Other Bobby Braddock songs include, "Golden Ring"and "D-I-V-O-R-C-E". What a great and generous guy. Another event was Paul Hemphill's signing of "Lovesick Blues" a biography of Hank Williams. John sang his Hank Williams' song book for the occassion, one of his favorite things to do. Check out the article.

Every Friday night the Lake Toxaway, North Carolina community serves supper followed by great pickin' and singin'. There are some outstanding pickers in that community. John enjoys sitting in with the locals. John did his original "The Brave Young Boys" on Memorial day last year and received a standing ovation. The patriotic theme of the song was perfect for the Memorial Day weekend. If you are in the Cashers area do yourself a favor and visit the Lake Toxaway Community center on Friday night.
